Ahoy!
I was hoping someone here could give me some advice on getting a console shipped.

I just bought a used console. It's measurements are 38" X 27" X 7", and it also comes with an external PSU. I think the total weight is around 75 lbs. To make a long story short, my sister has to pick it up for me in Rhode Island and ship it to me. I want to make it as hassle free for her as possible, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend any shipping places that can safely package and ship something of that size (for some reason I feel like UPS, FedEX, etc don't offer packing services...) Thanks in advance for any help.

you could use a counter-to-counter courier, which would be expensive, but it would arrive in one piece. if you call around in yr area you could probably find a local company who would cut you a deal and box it up for you.

just be aware that if you use ups and you need it to be signed for on the receiving end you have to ask for it they do not automatically do it.

and if you use fedex, do not insure it, what they call insurance is only if they lose it, not if it gets damaged. if you use fedex, have them enter a declared value.

my final tip: send it as fast (ups: next day red [don't bother w/ early am delivery its expensive and its a scam]/fedex: priority overnight) as possible, that way less people are touching it, less chance of getting damaged

hey thanks dudes

Yeah, UPS pisses me off with their delivery confirmation and 5 days a week bs. I live 40 minutes away from the ups office, so picking stuff up from them is a real pain. I could probably get it delivered to my work though...

I didn't know about FedEx insurance, Ive generally been really pleased with their service. So you're saying that they don't provide insurance for damaged property?

The overnite shipping idea is a good one.
thanks
mike

Yes Fedex insurance exsists really to protect them, not you, its all in the fine print. If it gets damaged in shipping they will tell you tough shit, trust me.

go w/ the declared value

i work in a computer shipping warehouse and can safely say if you use Fed Ex ground, your stuff will almost certainly get lost or broken (we see it on a daily basis). if you use Fed Ex, ship it by Air, otherwise.. good luck.

DO NOT USE PACKING PEANUTS. Let the UPS store pack it but instruct them not to use packing peanuts. Ive had the most success using big bubble wrap and double boxing. Peanuts allow the unit to slip to the side and get damaged. Ive destroyed a DA7 packing it with peanuts, I have successfully shipped a soundcraft ghost, mackie 8 bus, 32 channel mackie and a manley 16x2 mixer using bubble wrap.
