This one didn't get the treatment it deserved and I noticed an abortive attempt to do a C/NC for the new High On Fire album.

These guys are an absolute juggernaut of downtuned-somewhere-below-the-abyssal-plain, shamelessly cheesy and stoned metal. Pike has a completely unique sound, but for my money, it's the rhythm section that really sets them apart. Absolutely relentless, almost frightening. The albums make me clench my fists until there are crescents dug into my palms and the live show leaves me an exhausted but sated wreck.

NOT CRAP

Why'd Joe Preston join the band?

Better yet, why'd the old bassist leave?

According to Pike, George Rice left the band because he was just worn out with life on the road and wanted to spend time with his family. Considering the grind of touring, it's certainly understandable and it happens to bands all the time.

Preston is fucking fantastic and changes their sound a bit, but certainly doesn't hurt it. They're stronger than ever.

I think it's time for High On Fire to write a new song. They're been writing the same blisteringly kick ass song for a while now.

NOT CRAP...waffles for not moving along sonically.

I think with Preston now involved in the songwriting, you guys will get your wish. I wouldn't expect anything drastically different, but it'll be a change.

Thanks for putting this up as a poll. I tried and failed -- maybe I am not allowed.
High on Fire Rules. I have the original demo from before they were signed (they gave it to me at The Expo Of The Extreme), and it is still supreme to listen to, the new one -- Blessed Black Wings -- is the best since that demo, but all of it is very good still.
But what do you expect from the guy from Sleep??????
