Cab suggestions for Sovtek Mig 50

1
Hello,

i just bought Sovtek Mig 50 (my first own tube amp) from ebay.

I was thinking of an appropriate cab for it. So i decided to ask You who have access to different gear and knowledge.

I like guitar sound of Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, Godspeed, Mogwai, Chavez... I use tubescreamer and rat II for my dirty sounds.
What would be the best cab for both clean and dirty?
My brother (the other guitarist) plans to get Mesa Single recto or Rectoverb.

I was thinking about somkind 4X12 - marshall, engl, framus ...
and what wattage would be the best
Any suggestions would be very appreciateed.
Thank You.

i had a sovtek mig 50 awhile back. i liked it a lot with a strat into a marshall 4x12 with celestion greenbacks. 100 watt cabinet. i tried it with my acoustic cabinet that is something like 400 watts and i have no clue what model of speakers were in it, but i didnt like the sound of it at all. i would probably stick to something lower wattage. but i only tried it with those two cabinets.

I don't know. I have wondered this myself. I think they work for certain situations, but just too limited to my ears. They sound like they might work for the type of sound that Lauris is going for though. A more important question might be, what guitar(s) are you going to be running into the Rat/Tubescreamer - Amp - Cab ?
In response to the original post, I am saving up to buy an open back, Avatar 2x12 loaded with Celestion G12H30's for my MiG-60.

Find a Marshall 1922 2x12 cab. Usually $250 on Ebay. It's what I used until I bought my Matchless. I used it with a Marshall JTM45, which isn't totally unlike some of the Sovteks.

Live with the speakers - they aren't bad (usually G12s, sometimes Greenbacks).

When you get a wild hair up your ass, replace one, or both, but mismatch them. Put in a Blueback and a Vintage 30. Use some sort off Celestion and an EV. Whatever floats your boat.

I love mismatched speakers. I love one 10 and one 12 better, but this rig is small, loud, portable, and will look great with your Sovtek, for what it's worth.

Thank You very much for Your answers and suggestions. They are very helpfull as i dont have any expierence with cabs and speakers (exept i liked that one and didnt like that one without knowing whay), but now i am learning.
I play PRS Santana Se (the old version) with tubescreamer and rat and dd2, ibanez de7, dodfx17, mxr blue box. I am looking for good clean sound and fat dirty one. I like post rock and math rock and also entic music.
I was told that 2x12 cabs bring to much bass? Is that true?

Once more thank You for suggestions.

I can't think of any sensible reason anyone would say that unless they are comparing the most typical 2x12s (open back) with the most common 4x12 (closed) In this case the phenomenon of "more bass" with the 2x12 is really a question of lower resonant frequency. The "acoustic loading" of a closed back (basically air pressure) yields a resonance at a frequency that is very useful for the guitar, especially to distinguish it from the frequencies typical of bass guitar and kick drum. The open back cabinet gives lots of low end, but as anyone who's gigged with a Twin Reverb can attest, it can sometimes interfere with the perception of bassist's lines, if you're playing in the bottom octave.
