What kind of microphone would you choose for recording soft, airy vocals? The likes of Cat Power, Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk for instance.

The Rhode mic is a good one, but when i'm in the mic closet and i'm looking for "air" or "bright" vocals i grab the Neumann TLM-103... they used to be kinda expensive, but they are pretty cheap now...

I remember Mr. lemos Using the Old Gold 47 at Acme on vocals, it always sounded great. Especially through the old LA-2A.

Hmm, the Neumann is very tempting... that might well take me over budget though.. maybe I can sell a kidney.

i just picked up one of the BLUE lollipop capsules that fits on an older AKG 451 body. It's great. I like it better than the 103. The price right now is US$450, so might be a hell of a deal for you with the favorable conversion rates.
later,
