shit, if there's enough interesting stuff going on, some bands can make one chord enrapturing (here's looking at you, spacemen 3!)

Usually I find texture (and tone) way more interesting than structure, so it's okay if a band uses only two chords, or one chord, or a triad, or a single note. As long as they make it interesting otherwise. There's so much you can do with so little.

If one chord is good enough for Flipper and Harry Nilsson, then two chords ought to be fine. And yeah, if the texture's good, then one chord, one note, or blasts of noise (Autechre, anyone?) can bring it.
