i'm in the market for a new soundcard as i have an audigy card at the moment and its crap. i've been looking at possibly one of the m audio delta cards possibly the 196 version. i would be using it mostly for editing/mixing live recordings and overdubbing some midi vsti's over it. at the moment i cant use midi because the latency is so bad on my card.
just thought i'd ask those of you who use computers what souncards you use?

2I use an M Audio Delta 1010 and am very happy with its performance. Can't speak for the quality of its MIDI capabilities as I don't use MIDI, but I imagine it would suit your needs.
**Do we need the other Chemical Bros. records??

3used to use an m-audio audiophile 2496 -- was really unimpressed -- driver updates were few & far between.... latency issues always... etc ... eventually ended up dropping the money on a motu 828 mkii -- love it - no problems with it, latency or otherwise.

This is a _very_ capable sound card. Probably the best bang for your buck given it's been around awhile. (I had two of these at one time...)

If you are on the cheap, the EMU 1212m will fit the bill and give ADAT (besides balance TRS I/O, midi, wordclock)
Good luck,

7Another Delta 1010 (as opposed to 1010lt) user here.
Pros:
Clear, quiet, dependable (see driver issues), cheap.
Cons:
Driver support shocking; I think they only ever released one usable version, but plenty of unusable versions.
Hot. Needs to be kept at the top of your rack to avoid toasted compressors etc.
Sync issues if you plan on running two (or more) 1010s.
If I was buying today, I'd probably buy RME.

9I use a Tascam FW-1884. Great piece of kit as it also doubles up as a simple mixer for live work and midi controller. Might be what you are looking for.

Also worth a try if latency is your only problem.
