i am going to purchase some channel strips(spectrasonics) and cant find any info on them. sorry dont have a model number. what do you people think of them. so far on the phone with another perchaser, i was told there all discrete. no ICs, transformer in and out, comes with EQ. what are some thoughts. those aren't the mixers featured in tape op a while ago are they...hmmm. now im ganna search tape op.
thanks.

2the only spectrasonics product i am aware of is the 610 compressor.
i believe that tape op article was on sphere consoles.

3I own a pair of Spectra Sonics 101 pre-amp cards.
Spectra Sonics was the bees knees back in the 60’s/70’s their consoles were
found in Muscle Shoals, Stax and RCA to name a few.
My particular cards were taken from the Studio A console at Paramount in LA
(used between 69-79 I think?) and used by Zappa and Dylan, a nice bit of
history.
The 101 is the pre amp card it runs on a single +24V rail and was designed
to be used without transformers but they were coupled in and out on the
console via Triad’s (don’t recall the models off hand). The 101 was later
replaced with the 110 card, which uses bi-polar rail, +-24V, and has a
little more headroom.
The 101/110 was used all over the board and used in various positions
(including the amp card for the aforementioned 610 Compressor/Limiter), I
like to think the 101 was to Spectra Sonics what the BA283AV was to Neve.
They are indeed discrete, no IC’s in sight and the EQ is prob one of 2
models, the 501 or 502, both are passive and very musical.
The pres have the low end warmth of a Neve 1290, smooth mids and neutral
highs.
Hope that is of some help.
Cheers
Matt
