hello all. im thinking of modding my desks op amps. ive heard and searched that 5532's are superior to the TO72's. but also design of the ciruit is a major factor, of course. is it worth the effert

2It depends on the exact opamp's application (eg. diff. amp, buffer, etc.) but generally speaking, the NE5532s will be better. You need to listen though to compare.
Swapping opamps is a sensitive topic for some people. I say, just give it a go, but be sensible - observe current draw (and your PSU capability) and consider stability when using faster opamp,
OPA604 (single) and OPA2604 (dual) are good too (I think these are the optional Burr Browns used in Syteks...) I've compared these to the NE5534 and if anything I thought the BB ones were a little "cleaner". It took five minutes to swap them though!
I'd try modding two channels first by fitting opamp sockets in your mic pre sections (and fitting upgrade opamps) and perhaps using audio-grade capacitors in the audio path (eg. Elna Starget).
Once you've done that, compare the two channels to another two channels on the desk and see if you notice a worthwhile improvement.
