Aesop Rock
I rather enjoy this guy, because it's like the Wu Tang Clan meets the indie culture. He is actualy literate, and you can understand what he's saying without him having to cuss or use slang every 2 seconds. I vote NOT CRAP.

2So, it's some sort of cultural peak -- we're supposed to recognize as special -- that a hip-hop rapper can read?

4Crap. A lyrical hoax if you will. His flow is completely forced, and while he may be able to read, he certainly doesn't convey vivid images like the Wu Tang Clan, though he does seem to have an affection for opening his songs with quotes of them. ("All in together now" on Prefuse's Blacklisted, for instance. Or "Raw, I'mma give it to ya. No trivia" on Labor Days' Boombox.)
I mean, shit... He's quoting fucking U-God. That's just gae.
edit- also, Bazooka Tooth and the Fast Cars album blow balls. The man hasn't dropped a decent track in five years.

5There is a new song available for download here:

It's very good and pretty different from anything else he's done. I am now really excited about the new album.
I've always thought that Aesop had the potential to make a really great album. Hopefully this next one is it.

6Crap. The Nike track was funny. There are better rappers out there.

7That are still putting out albums? Who? I'm not saying there isn't, I'm just curious as to who they are. There's not much new stuff I can get into or know about. Stones Throw is really inconsitent. Aside from the Madvillain record, MF DOOM is really overrated. I love Aesop and the Can Ox album, but Def Jux is crap. The first cLOUDDEAD record is an all time favourite, but I could care less about Anticon.
As I said, I don't think he's put out a good record, but his cadence and 'word play' really wets my whistle.
The new track I posted a link to gives me hope. I've probably listened to it 100 times in the last few days.

Well, for one, Sage Francis. Then there's Mr. Lif, Doseone, Slug, Buck 65, Atmosphere. Cannibal Ox is good too. Edan is a good rapper. There's El-P, if you're into him. Aesop had a couple of good albums, but the new thing he's doing isn't it.

No. Other than that it is apparently very good, I know next to nothing about adult swim.

I like most things Dose has done and Lif is a lot of fun live. I have a seething hatred for Sage Francis and the others I don't care for. I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to suck it or some such.
