I'd Love to get 2 , 421's but I don't think I can afford it right now.

My setup consists of a Tama Rockstar with Aquarian Superkick II (AKG D112). Aquarian powerhouse (sm57) and 2 Audio-Technica PRO-37R OH's

any good Tom mic recomendations or should I just save up for a 421?

Maybe look at a Sennheiser MD21? I got one on ebay for around $100, there's one on ebay now at about $60. I've never been able to figure out a stand setup to properly use this mic on toms, but I haven't given it too much of a shot, and it sounds swell on kick, bass, and only marginally better than a 57 on my guitar amp.

Note that it's just MD21, and not MD421.

Audio Technica ATM-25, nice on toms, so is their Pro 25 and that's like 75 bucks. ATM-25 is around $135. And they're both good on bass cabs, too.

I like the Audix D2 also.

Audio Technica AT3525 - it's an electret condensor like the AT4033. It can easily handle drums and it's much lower output than the 4033 (which I almost always have to use a pad with). When you put it on a tom it sounds like the tom - I don't need EQ.

I'm in the market for another one, in fact. But we just bought a C3 so there's no more spending for a while.

(edit) That's a Hammond C3.
