Ive been in a spell lately of buying all the old classics I've avoided buying and as a result the most recently released record I can think of that I LOVE is Jim O'Rourke's Insignificance and that's half a decade old now. If you guys would give me some one- or two- song recommendations for me to download from NEW artists (from the just started to 5-7 years old range) I would really appreciate it. I know that sounds pretty vague but we all are bonded by a pretty similar taste and I usually assume if something is suggested on here it has at least some merit, if that makes sense.
I'm guessing something like this has been done on here before but it's too broad of a concept for me to know what to search for. Sorry Faiz.
thank you.

2i think deerhoof are probably the best band in the world at the moment. their albums are all pretty incredible but i particularly enjoyed the most recent one 'the runners four'.
it is a double album of very interesting failures at writing the ultimate pop song. it sounds a bit like if yoko ono had reformed the beatles after lennon's death. but fucking amazing.
i hope this helps!
(edit - i have added two fine songs from the aforementioned album to the eaforums gmail account. username "eaforums" password "notcrap" )

3I strongly advise checking out Sicbay, two-thirds of which is represented on this here board. Two guitars and drums, Mpls-informed post-punk (I can't believe I just wrote that). Anyway, between their website, their myspace, and their record label's site, you can listen to about a gillion songs. A very fine band that needs to come to Denver.

5i've said this before, and i'll say it again: The El Michel's Affair - Sounding Out the City, on Truth & Soul. an amazing, painfully overlooked record.

6I'm enjoying The National in a big way at the moment, but I guess it depends on whether you dig the American Music Club vibe...

7japan's MONO is a relatively young band (six years old) that i think is getting better with each successive album. on their new album they're actually writing songs in different keys!
chicago's BEAR CLAW are immense. hard to believe "find the sun" is their first album, it's so good. and rich is such a nice lad.
i second DEERHOOF as one of the most inventive and exciting bands in the us right now. although i prefer "milk man," i think the new one mentioned above is also fantastic.
outside america, SERENA MANEESH is probably my favorite young band at the moment. i got to see them last month at their first US show and it was jaw-dropping. i don't think their album (self-titled) is available here until may, but if you can find an import version or download it, it's stunning.
oh yeah, and the new DANIELSON FAMILE album "ships" is awesome. it's a real departure for them, and it features members of DEERHOOF and SERENA MANEESH as well as about 30 other musicians. but he's been recording for ten years or more.... so he's not exactly "new".

They are a really excellent live band as well. Their bassist Tamaki was the first Japanese person I ever "schooled" about sake (I ordered a kind she had never heard of, and she liked it!)

10I would strongly recommend you buy the new Unit Ama album from Gringo Records. The new Lords album is very good too.
