I recently bought a macintosh 2100 power amp to go with my tanoy little red monitors but I'm still not happy.

Maybe I' need to check the ampp cause it's really not dynamic at all.
But the tanoy seems strange too.
Someone lent me these monitors so I won't complain. But my main problem is that each time i work in a studio I don't feel right with the monitors.

Could you please give me advice?
Is it possible to use monitors made for personal use? not professional?
Or do I have to learn to listen with Yamaha NS-10 like everyone?

In fact there's a lot of albums that sound terrific (for me) and that suck when I play them on NS10 or on Genelec 1037.

I'm usually more into vintage stuff and I don't specially like gear that is lifeless so is there a compromise in monitors or do I have to work with something lifeless without low (ns10) or with too much (genelec)?

Sorry if I ask so many things but I'm lost and tired to fuck mix because I don't know what to believe.

what is your room like? a crappy, untreated room can sound bad, even with the best speakers. you can probably get used to it over time though.

you do not have to use "professional" speakers. i, as well as others here, use b&w matrix 805's. these are designed as home stereo speakers not professional recording studio monitors. i do not like genelec's or ns-10's.

try to hear as many speakers as you can. go with the ones you like.

Thanks. That's what I thought but so many people told me that I MUST use NS10 or others that sometimes you feel alone against the world.

So b&w matrix 805's are a good choice you think? I have to listen to them I suppose.

Ok I checked some old topics on the forum about these b&w and there was a lot of answers to my questions.

do all 805s have those little top-attached tweeters or is that a specific model?

both the Matrix 805's and Nautilus 805's have them. i don't know if they made/make any other 805 models

Are you talking about the Tannoy Reveal passives? I have them.
