These two bands have always seemed kind of synonymous to me, I guess since they were both mid-'90s heavy-ish bands with non-macho vocals.

Chavez.

Hum. Most likely because I am unfamiliar with Chavez. Still, Electra 2000 and You'd Prefer An Astronaut are both juggernauts of albums, that I'd have to say this Chavez band has some stiff competition.

Chavez are under-rated, Hum are over-rated.

Both are good, but CHAVEZ.

i haven't heard any chavez, i'll be sure to check them out if people think they are better than hum.

it sounds gae but matt talbott wrote such great lyrics. i know i've already linked it once but check out hum playing 'stars' live here, they absolutely rock the shit out of their most commercial track.

I'm taking Chavez, but not by a lot. HUM automatically makes me think of Champaign-Urbana, which is always good.

If you haven't heard Chavez, make it a priority. For some reason that I can't really explain, I consider Matt Sweeney a guitar "hero".

Hum were jerks to me once. Chavez or whatever I have had no dealings with. So Chavez.

Chavez songs sound a lot more distinctive to me while HUM's all kind of blend together. I like HUM but Chavez just owns any comparison, plus their video was on Beavis & Butthead.
