Anybody here know of recurring problems encountered using this mic?
I have met someone who told me that they seem to give at some point in time. Something inside the capsule seems to brake and then comes loose inside. Have you ever seen this problem and if so do you have any suggestions on how to fix it? [/code]

Yeah. We just had the foam in the RE-20 case here at my work disintegrate and get all over the mic. It's nasty as hell.
So how the hell do we get into the metal case? All the posts either don't mention taking the mic apart or they say, "I opened the mic up" without describing the process.
Please, someone describe it. Also, we tried unscrewing the top, and it won't move. there's a small hole that looks like it could have an allen bolt inside, but it isn't, I don't think.
please help, folks!

Well, I suppose I'll add to this thread instead of my own, ignored one. So sad I am.
Anyway, I talked to Telex support about this. There are apparently 3 pieces of foam, one on top of the diaphragm, one surrounding it and one at the bottom by the low pass filter. The foam costs $10 if you want to do it yourself, or $60 if you send it to them. The top of the mic should have a little allen screw and then the whole thing screws off. I haven't figured out how to get the rest of the mic apart. I just convinced the person who sold me mine to refund $60 of it and I just sent mine in..

The foam inside does indeed disintigrate over time and you'll have to replace it. Do it soon and don't wait like I did. My PL20 got trashed from the capsule bouncing around on the case. I had to have all the guts replaced and it cost over $200.

Thanks for the help but i guess this case is more complicated than that. It seems my friends mic has a part loose inside the capsule, So everything is fine with the outer part of the mic and the casing. I havent seen it yet but the problem is something loose inside the capsule and so we cant really access it because we would have to destroy the mylar or whatever it's made out of.
this friend told me that before buying a new one, I should check around and see if anyone knows how to open one of these capsules (ex: maybe a note on how to remove the green gunk holding everything in place).
If no other idea was given, as a last course of action he suggested using a needle to prick through the fabric and glue the part back on with highly adhesive glue. "then poke out!" he said and "ttry" to repair the mylar thingy?! Patch it up again with a minimal amount of silicone based adhesive or something?
None of that sounds good to me of course but I thought the end result was worth mentioning.
If you guys have any ideas or anything helpful at all or an re20 for sale let me know!
Cheers!
