Johnson City, TN
Of course I'm biased. It's my hometown. Still one of the prettiest places I've ever been to with some of the best people.
Chapel Hill, NC
Great place with good venues/food/air/everything.
Chicago, IL
It's got a nice feel that is hard to describe.
Milwaukee, WI
I met Mark Mcgwire there the year he broke the single-season record. Maybe that's why my memories are so fond. Really haven't been there since I was nine.
Lucerne, Switzerland
River runs through town. The river is clear, she is. Enough cannot be said for this, this river. See fishes swim through river. In middle of city!

2Seattle, because I live here an am biased.
I second the vote for Milwaukee. So many nice people. So many good bands. Such low alcohol prices.

3only places i've been outside the US are london, paris and israel. i don't think i'm capable of making judgements on external cities...
louisiville - local pride is unimaginable. easy to get around and the people are nice. tons of bars, galleries.
tucson - also easy to get around, amazing food, very laid back and tranquil.
seattle - beautiful. it's never rained when i've been there--very weird.
savannah (ga) - unique layout, nice riverwalk, people are very eccentric.
burlington (vt) - went to school there for a while, even in the winter when it's below zero, the walk downtown is short enough and there are plenty of nooks in which one can lose track of time. easy music scene to make yourself a part of, especially if it's stylistically different from the "norm" there.

5I like Madison alot, probably my favorite city in Wisconsin.
La Crosse where I live now is the nicest area in wisconsin, there's shit for music here though. It's all bands influenced by phish, or fall out boy.
I'm moving to madison soon, In hopes of getting a job with my degree, and finding some people there that want to play descent music.

When I lived in Illinois as a kid, my dad liked to do his bass fishing up your way. We had a little trailer in Lynxville, which is right on 35 between La Crosse and Prairie du Chien. That is some of the most gorgeous country in these United States. I could imagine it being pretty slim pickin's musically though.

7This post reminded me that I have been wanting to get peeps opinions on best places to live. I am not sure if this thread is totally geared in that direction (to live more than to visit) but rather than start a new thread, I thought I would sorta hi-jack this one.
I am probably going to move in the next year or two. My girl and I are both from NY and will probably head back east. But I would love to hear opinions of anywhere and everywhere - BEST PLACE TO LIVE!
I am thinking maybe Poughkeepsie or Northhampton, MA.
I would like to be somewhere a little smaller (than Chicago at least) but still has some sort of music/culture and is somewhere near a big city (within a couple few hours.)
Anyone?

8Gainesville, FL wins, hands down. Yes, I am biased but I really think it is a great place. I have lived here 20 years and have no plans of leaving. The only drawback is the fact that a lot of bands don't venture into Florida and if they do, they ignore Gainesville. But at the same time there are some bands that venture into Florida just to play Gainesville. I rarely see fights at shows. Living expenses are cheap. There is a beach an hour away. What's not to love?

I worked at a summer camp for the developmentally disabled in Prairie du Chien. Badger Camp! It was much like a Killdozer record. But in a good way.
I think northern Wisconsin is much prettier.
