Song: Styx - " Mr. Roboto"

"Mr. Roboto," arguably the "cornerstone" of Styx's epic concept piece, Kilroy Was Here, and perhaps the pinnacle of their ridiculous brand of showtune-"rock."

- "Roboto" is not a word.

- "Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto. Domo (domo). Domo (domo)."

- "Secret, secret; I've got a secret."

- "Thank you very much-o, Mr. Roboto." Someone penned this line. Then they sang it. It's toward the end of the song.

I was with one of my bandmates at a diner one night when someone played this song on the jukebox. Said bandmate had inexplicably never heard this song before in his 20-odd years and went into a fit of convulsive laughter, the likes of which I had never seen before, nor have I seen since.

It is catchy and unbelievably fruity and outright horrible. I think it's so crap that it comes full circle and is in fact NOT CRAP. I think there's something wrong with me for voting this way. I think there's something very wrong with Mr. Dennis DeYoung.

This song is an embarrassing piece of dog shit from a band that up to that point had one hell of an embarrassing back catalog.

As open-mided as I am about music, I can't find anything redeeming about it.
You really think it's catchy?

I can't think of any Styx song that I like excluding this one.

Not crap for it's '80s-inspired, played in slo-mo, frosted memories.

I haven't heard it in quite a while though.

Catchy but horrible. I hate to admit that if I hear it, it gets stuck in my head.

I'm proud to say I've never actually heard this song all the way through from beginning to end. [Same goes for "Stairway," but that's a totally different matter.]

Crap. WF 0.

This should be in the Hall of Fame and will, I think, shed some light on this discussion: http://electrical.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5581&highlight=shit&sid=d4191e98c15cba7175cc09a0f024e995

as the dude in question, i feel i should add to this discussion...i said NOT CRAP...of course this song is crap...but i think it truly fills the cliché of "so bad it's good"...true listening to it now can no longer compare to that first time i heard it, but anything that could make me laugh that hard has to have some value, no? "thank you very much-o, Mr. Roboto"

I love this song, and I have been known to like Styx.

There, I said it.

I LIKE STYX.

Sure, Dennis DeYoung is a whinging prick. He's trumped by a great rhythm section and Tommy Shaw/JY Young.

I await the imminent Yacht Rock episode on them.

the only thing that isn't crap about this song is that it reminds me of a friend i had in college who was dating this dude who had stolen a pedulla bass from the STYX bassist.

it was fretless and had gold hardware. such as cheezy bass.

crap.

Please.

Please.

The song can be entertaining and still be crap.

For Jesus Fucking Mary Up on the Cross Christ's sake.

It's called 'sludge.' You can like to hear sludge. You can even actually like it. But that doesn't mean it's necessarily any GOOD.

Styx is pure 100% undiluted and unrefined sludge.

And they are 100% crap.

Therefore, 'Mssr. Roboto' is 100% crap.

I am sure I would listen to it in its entirety were it to come on the radio sometime, just as I listen to Rush's 'Working Man' in its entirety.

Not 'but,' not 'however.' It's crap, and I would enjoy hearing it on occasion.
