tiresome, relentless negativity--i mean, how many more ways can one make a lame list? i'm sure we'll find out.
but...very nice layout--layout goes a long way in making a magazine entertaining. i like the burdensome amount of text. plus it's perfect bound, isn't it? which is nice.
and really, any magazine that has published that don caballero tour diary AND that incredible interview with pen rollings deserves a 'not crap'

i like the relentless negativity and the fact that every issue is pretty large (save for this new one, since it's a "part one" or whatever). i can't think of much i think is funnier than this magazine.
NOT CRAP

This is a bit off the subject, but I read in the fine print at the bottom of the table of contents in the last issue, that the issue was dedicated to the singer of the Jack-O-Nuts. I'm afraid to ask why. Did she die?

I agree that the negativity is a little over the top. The writing can be funny at times, even downright hilarious. The magazine seems to hate every band that wasn't involved in that early 90s indie-math rock-with-horn-rimmed-glasses-crowd and isn't Van Halen. The guy that makes that magazine gets a little annoying with the whole "Yeah, I got in that Breadwinner show for free and then Tar crashed at my house and then I got up and had breakfast with Don Caballero and then went to the David Cross taping that night with the guitar player from Hurl" thing.
I still say NOT CRAP, 'cause it's just a magazine that some guy makes, and most of the time there's something in there that appeals to me. If something really bothers someone about scene-specific or topic-specific coverage in magazines, then that person can go and make one of his own, which is what the Chunklet guy did and the same for the Tape Op guy, which I can't really find fault with.

I say crap, even tho I always buy it and read. Its funny in bits, but yeah even Forced Exposure and Your Flesh actually had the balls to say when they liked something.
Also, as far the lists go, I have always thought they were real chicken shit to anonymously bash bands ("Shit List"). If you don't have the guts to slag some band in public, yr opinion doesn't count for shit. Plus they have pretty weak reasons for laying into bands "I sold all my Jesus Lizard records cause one time at a party some guy w/ a Jesus Lizard t-shirt took one of my beers w/o saying thanks" I am exaggerating, but you know what I mean.
Just because you can find one crank somewhere who doesn't like drinking water, doesn't mean its overrated.
still:
pen rollings interview, don cab tour diary, etc all classic
crap

I vote NOT CRAP.
It is negative, but it's funny. And I swear if you take anything Henry says seriously, then you should just read Harper's.
And Harper's is NOT CRAP, too.
besides, he's got great jokes:
"how many Polyphonic Sprees does it take to screw in a lightbulb?"
"23. 1 to screw in the lightbulb, and 22 to suck my dick."
juvenile and beauteous.

Far too mean for my thin skin.
I think the fella who runs that publication is just a frustrated, undersexed, fat guy who is past his 'groupie-getting' prime.
Kinda like an indie rock Jim DeRogatis
