I like bonus tracks when they make sense like on collections where there wasn't some sort of original song order or reissues that have possibly another CD's worth of unreleased things (recent T. Rex reissues).... though sometimes they seem to mess up the intended album order (Ryko Bowie reissues)... Japan does this with indie releases so as to make sure Japanese buyers buy Japanese CD's rather than getting imports.

I like that the original release of Nomeansno's Dance of the Headless Bourgoisie had two extra tracks on the vinyl release that weren't on the cd (although they've put them on the recent re-release).

I kind of like the idea of the hidden Misfits cover at the start of the Pajo album.

Other than that it's kind of annoying, but occasionally effective.

Meh... crap. Small WF.

I am ashamed to admit that I have done this. The main reason for doing so is that when popping in our CD, the display would read

8 39:59

Just like the first Public Image record.

Also, I like to watch the looks on peoples faces when the last song is selected on the jukebox at a local bar. Everyone jumps up when they hear five people screaming the word "ICE!" in unison at the top of their lungs.

Still CRAP, though.

Fine if they leave them at the end. As Mayfair says, when it messes up the original song order, it can be annoying.

No need for a 10-minute-long pause. I think 15 or 20 seconds adequately communicates the sentiment "Here is a song we wanted to give to you but it isn't really part of the album, because it didn't really 'fit' with it, so we stuck it on here at the end." And isn't that really the point of a "bonus track"? Or am I missing something?

Are we talking about bonus tracks or hidden tracks (haven't heard the new Futureheads album)?

I guess it depends on how good the bonus track(s) are.

On cds, fantastic. Try and make it at least 30% worth that 15 bucks.
