Going to Boston

Going to Boston for a few days near the end of the month. Never been. Will be staying in the North End. I plan on visiting a few museums, but those aside, what do you all recommend - places to eat, see, etc? I don't believe I'll have access to a car (so nothing too far away), and unfortunately, the Red Sox will not be in town (so no Fenway). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You won't need a car anyway. The "T" (MBTA, their "L") will get you where you need to go. Though it stops running at 12:30 am til like 5am so if yr out between then, plan on a cab or walking.

The North End of course is great, Newbury Street, Copley Square, Harvard Square, Central Square, Fanuil Hall, the Esplanade along the river, Bunker Hill, the Back Bay, the Garden, the Commons, Charles Street, the Freedom Trail, Downtown Crossing, Chinatown, the Fenway, Kenmore Square, Harvard Avenue and Brighton Avenue in Allston, Commonwealth Avenue from Kenmore to Allston, The South End.

All of this accessable on the "T". When I lived there, the fare was 85 cents and free outbound, above ground from Kenmore. That was 8 years ago.
it's not the length, it's the gersch

go see rock bands. central square in cambridge is a good place to start.

have dinner at Mary Chungs.

Harvard Ave. in Allston is (used to be) the punk rock capital of the world. It's probably all yuppified by now. There were some cool bars in Inman Sq. in cambridge.

Check out the show listings at www.wmbr.org.

If you're going to be in Central Square you might as well check out the All Asia restaurant right down the street (eastbound on Mass Ave) on the same side. They have small shows there a lot and you'll see some decent bands once in a while. Plus across the street from that, the Miracle of Science bar has some seriously good cheesburgers.
