Im possibly gonna buy this guitar
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Mustang-Gu ... dZViewItem
But, i thought the competition issues headstocks colour matched the body colour. Is there anyway of checking for authenticity?
Any advice?

The serial number is given. Ask Fender and you'll know.

thought this was a funny selling point:
This is the same guitar used by Kurt Cobain, made famous by Smells Like Teen Spirit music video.

If you look
here there are some other reissues with clear headstocks.
According to the
Fender site, it's Japanese and made twist '93 and '94.

Keep in mind that although they have lovely necks and are small, they (and the Jag-stang also) are amongst the shittest sounding guitars I have ever heard due to the bridge unit (no sustain) and don't keep in tune.
Looks fairly cool though, and probably legit.

Since you've gone bare-knuckle...
Not only is Rodabod absolutely right (in my opinion, of course) but I would add than unless you're a lady, or a man of less than average height/thickness, they look silly too.
Plus the lack of string tension makes them hellish if you don't string them with strings as thick as your forearm.

Yes, the *exact* one!
Many competitions didn't have painted headstocks. My guess is that it's real.
I'll echo the other guys - Mustangs really aren't that great. Most play like shit, and they were built to be a poor man's Strat. Once Cobain and the rest of the flannel set drove up the price, the "poor man's" part of the sobriquet no longer applied.
I've played a few that were nice, but they were the exception, and for what they cost, I would have bought a much nicer guitar.
Ah *am* a sucka fo-ah that competition strahp, though.
Makes me swoon.
Man, that is sharp.
Buy if you want a cool guitar. If you want a good guitar buy something else.

I own an 1965 Fender Mustang. It's fine and it "almost" stays in tune. It has a very nice neck. Mine sounds good through an EH Big muff and a Fender Bassman.
Actually, I'm waiting for my EGC Custom now.

Its a deal only if the seller throws in the bedspread too. Otherwise, pass.

I'm always sketched out by sellers with bad pictures.
