Better band... Polvo, or Unwound?

I heard both of these bands for the first time on the very same night. It was November 19, 1995 and they were opening for Sonic Youth. Unwound were much, much better that night, and they made an instant fan out of me.

Polvo didn't do very much for me then, but I like them quite a lot now.

Still, my vote easily goes to Unwound. "Lifetime Achievement Award" is probably one of my all-time favorite songs.

Bias toward Unwound because I saw them live over two dozen times, and they released twice as many albums all of which are at least good, if not downright excellent.

Polvo's studio output is all great as well, but the few times I saw them, they seemed really just-there. Ash was always in a lousy mood, seeming like he'd rather be doing anything else but playing live.

Unwound have had hit-or-miss shows, but their best shows were some of the best shows I've ever seen.

So, Unwound gets my vote.

(is there a reason these two bands were chosen? Just curious.)

They've been in a bending-but-never-breaking two-way tie for "my favorite band" for years now. And I've just recently realized, like yesterday, that of my closest friends and bandmates, it seems like people like one or the other, but not so much both. Nothing beyond that, really.
