2Presonus Firepod. 8 in/out, built in mic pre's and 2 instrument inputs. Recent street price reduction by Presonus to $499 USD.

3Already mentioned, but the Presonus FirePod is your ticket. It requires a FireWire connection. If you're not set up for FireWire already, you can buy a FireWire PCI card for 8 or 9 USD and plug it in with no hassle. I know this because I'm hardware illiterate and did this myself without a hitch.
I bought one four months ago to upgrade from a USB interface and it is hands down, one of the easiest pieces of hardware I have ever had to work with.
Also, looking ahead, you can daisy chain up to three of these together for 24 tracks.

I recommend you buy an Adaptec card for yer firewire connection. Spend the extra $ if need be.

6This is probably the best buy I've seen around lately. Maybe a little OTT for your needs though:

8I have a firepod, it's ver nice, the software interface is a bit basic and the knobs on the front are ever so slightly flimsy but otherwise nothing bad to report

9been looking at the firepods and they are like 1500 AUD in australia. The price difference is ridiculous... and for some reason it's going to be around 100 USD to ship it over if I get one from america. What's the deal? Are they like made of lead or something?
oh yeah it would work with nuendo 2 wouldn't it?

10Do you know someone here who can buy it and ship it to you? Do that.
