The second Samoans album is tons of fun.

I could easily understand why anyone wouldn't like this stuff. They aren't exactly highbrow material. Plus they seem like they have major asshole potential though I have heard nothing one way or the other.

I just re-discovered "The Unboxed Set" that I bought in high school. It apparently has all of the albums on one cd and it has a lot of great songs.

I also just read that their biggest influence was the 13th Floor Elevators, who I have not checked out before for some retarded reason or another. Now I think I finally will. I know there's some Roky Erickson threads around here, so I'll look there for some ideas on where to get started.

I adore the Samoans and think they are one of the greatest bands in punk. For one thing one of the first real punk bands I got turned onto as a repeatedly dubbed cassette of Back to Samoa surfaced in my rural town in the mid-80’s and me and my small cadre of friends made copies and listened to it a shit ton. “Hitler’s Cock" seemed so outrageously fun to 14 y/o boys in rural Wisconsin and “My Old Man’s a Fatso” was a perfectly soothing song to listen to after disagreements with the parents. Even back then I knew the song “Homosexual” was stupid and wrong, but that is my single waffle with this amazingly catchy and fun band.

If you like catchy punk rock do yourself a favor and get your hands on Angry Samoans The Unboxed Set, over forty songs of energetic musical bliss.

The Samoans were great.

"Haizman's Brain Is Calling" is my favourite song on that record.

I heard their version of "Pictures Of Matchstick Men" the other day. Still made me smile.
