I was thinking about grabbing one of these. Either the presonus firepod or this focusrite saffire pro. The focusrite is newer and has less reviews but I am willing to bet it's better quality pres.
any other good firewire interfaces?

I'm using an M-audio fire audiophile. I've not had any problems yet. I recommend it.

I've been using a Saffire for a month or so. It's the only firewire interface I've used, but I'm very satisfied with the sound quality. I've got pleasingly detailed and rich guitar and vocal sounds from it - the DSP compression and EQ is handy for tracking, especially as you can simultaneously record the same take with effects and without on separate channels.
On the downside, the amp sim plug-in that comes with my Saffire has never worked properly and Focusrite seem unable to fix it. Also, depending on what you want to do, 4 inputs (2 analogue, 2 digital) can be a bit limiting. On balance, though, I'm happy with it.

In this price range, pretty much everything is going to sound the same quality-wise. I had the Focusrite Firestation (precursor to the Firepod, used mLan protocol), and thought the pre's sounded fine. A bit noisy, but ok on dynamics & condenser mics. Not for the ribbon mic!
The Firepod has the most built-in pre's and inputs, correct? If that's the case, I'd go w/that one.

I've owned both Firebox and Firepod by Presonus.
They both work flawlessly, look great, and the mic pres are fantastic.
Do iiiiiiiit.
