I like "We Are the Pigs" a lot: it captures the over-the-top self-dramatisation, uber-campiness and mockney urchin grandeur that they seemed to reaching for. It's a huge pop song. I'm not a fan of much else of their's that I've heard, which'll lead me to voting a great, fat WF.

The London Suede indeed.
Twats. Even Suede UK would have been better.

are they any good? Their singer, Brett Anderson, sings on Stina Nordenstam's "Keen Yellow Planet" and it's incredible. he's got a really great voice.
or should I avoid suede altogether?

I say avoid. It's just fey britpop with a glam edge.

damn. he's got this really cool rubbery vocal on that one song. I'll upload it somewhere when I'm around my own cpu tomorrow. it's great.
shame about the fey britpop.
it appears he has a new solo album that just came out. maybe I will down load it.

Dude sounds like a pervert. He does. I'm just trying to help out here. No offense. But...really...he sounds like a first-class pervert. Stay away. Please.

Suede are pretty crap. But the first two releases (the ones with Butler on guitar) aren't that bad at all, you could try "Suede" or "dog man star". I don't think it's "britpop".
They went down hill after that though.

The early singles weren't bad, and I think Bernard Butler was a pretty badass guitarist. Animal Nitrate was a nice little number.
I've given away too much.

I second the
Dog Man Star recommendation. Bits of it rock - fey rock. This thread has got me to put on
We Are The Pigs from that album, which I'm enjoying a lot. The video for the song is
here, although I wouldn't recommend watching the thing. Five seconds in I started feeling irritable. Just listen.
Given that the song is probably one of their best, if you hate it, go no further!
EDIT: Embarassingly, I now see that I wrote much of the same a mere half months ago. Gad.
