What does "being romantic" mean to you? I hear women complain about their significant other not being romantic enough, and I even occasionally get this from my own wife.
What does a guy have to do to attain "romantic enough" status?!?

Spend all your money on her. Every red cent. That's the secret.

I think one of the most romantic scenes in film history crops up in the Getaway when Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw get dumped at the waste disposal site and they kinda roll into the rear half of an old VW Beetle, sit there and think about what to do next. Like they've spent the last four hours inside the garbage truck, so they are all itchy and smell of rotten bananas and Ali has an ugly cut on her forehead, but they still look damn sexy. And then they have a little tiff, but when they amble away from the dump they walk arm in arm and kiss, while some car tyres burn in the background.
That's dead romantic me thinks.

try to do something that expresses your feelings for your significant other in a way that only the two of you would understand. some women love flowers, which is totally silly because do they really love flowers or do they just think they love flowers? Some women expect cliches as a romantic gesture. So, if you start by thinking outside the box you'll get bon(er)us points.

I'm not sure how to quantify these "Romantic!"s. My pretty girlfriend doesn't complain about them, much.
I like inside jokes, but are those romantic?
I have no money to spend on my girlfriend. She knows this, and doesn't think its not romantic. I think holding her hand while we're walking is romantic sometimes. Especially after I just used the money I don't have to buy her sushi. And liquor.
I guess money does mean romantics.

What caix said. The key is thinking of something you know she specifically will enjoy because it's personal to her.
But simple flowers can often do the trick, as long as it's spontaneous and you do it coolly. Never make a romantic gesture with even a thought of reciprocation in your head. Selflessness is romantic.
And for chrissakes, romantic does not mean effete. (I see clueless guys make this mistake all the time.) You don't have to tone down your maleness to be romantic. In fact, it's just the opposite. Think chivalry, not submission.
