... will be in Chicago this weekend, and would like to audition some decent monitors for film/video post. we are looking to upgrade from the cheaper soft dome tweet ported cab variety to something along the lines of B&W matrix, Lipinski 505, or Tannoys etc etc... any shops in Chicago area worth checking in on?

Try out Bag End's new active monitors if you get a chance. They are pretty stellar...might be a bit much for a 5.1 surround setup, though. Unless you have piles of cash.

We picked up a pair of Genelec 1030A's for use with a sub. Not the best but solid for video mixing so far.
thanks to all who emailed or posted suggestions.
cheers, J
