Yeah, I just found out about it. Hopefully the loss of this musica landmark will curse the NY Yankees to never win another World Series.
Also, now that it's closed, I think that they should rip out the bathrooms and band rooms and put them on permanent display at the RocknRoll hall of fame.

Actually, it's all going to Las Vegas.
It's about time. I think this should have happened 10 years ago.

Apparently it is part of a larger East Village recreation here
http://www.curbed.com/archives/2005/07/ ... led_it.php
Created by one of the developers of New York, New York which has a recreation of bleeker street, with smoking manholes. Or at least that is what I have heard. They have many of your favorite east village hang outs there.
Hilly is apparently stripping the place to the wallboard and shipping it. Though I think that the bathrooms will probably get upgraded or at least work. Nothing better than doing a show there and sitting on the toilet having conversations with people as they walk by the bathrooms and wave.
It might also be hard getting the patina of dirt, beer and graffiti over 30 years of grafitti but I bet it will be fun.
Though not many may remember it Hilly tried at one point to franchise CBGB's across the country one opened in Miami for a time in the late 70's.

Honestly, I hope it doesn't work out for Hilly.
Please...let it die an honorable death. We don't need that place and name becoming the shallow pop culture icon it is sure to become if it re-opens in Vegas.
I wish all the best for Hilly, but please...let it die.

Seriously, do you have any idea how bad that would smell? That was one of the strongest concentration of urine smell in the city.
It's hard to feel too bad about it. Ten years ago they were booking some of the most amazing shows in the city but despite having one of the best sound systems in NY, there was little reason (band-wise) to set foot in there in recent years. Also, since they've been saying that CB's is closing for the past couple of years, it began to feel like one of those places with the perpetual "Going Out Of Business" signs.

I guess you haven't seen all the 14-24 year olds walking around in CBGB t-shirts in the last few years. I guarantee 90% of them don't even know what "CBGB" or "OMFUG" stand for, or what part of Manhattan the place (was) in even.
I know...that's bad enough. I'm just hoping it doesn't go any farther.
