Make music that a shitload of people were into, but very few people really understood

or

make music that only a few people like, but they totally understand and appreciate

I'm thinking if a lot of people totally love it, the there's not much else to understand. Am I right? A lot of people love the Beatles; are they missing something that "the rest of us" get?

Even so, I'd rather do something and have it be understood.

i knew it was just a matter of time before the "would you rather" game started here.

I think I misvoted but it doesn't matter because I didn't feel strongly one way or the other.

I mean, bands like Good Charlotte don't have a deeper message. I figure we're talking about the same amount of people "getting it" regardless of how many people like that band.
