I know it's not customary to do this, but I want to make a thread about just this song. I was thinking about it and I realized it may be my favorite song of all time. It's a record unto itself. The lyrics consist of maybe four sentences, but the imagery is much greater for me than a lot of songs. I don't think I've ever heard anything so dark. And what a way to start and end it, too...

At first, it makes you wonder: is it just going to be this abrasive grating sound at the beginning, or is it really going somewhere?

Come on. I can understand hating on Sonic Youth for the shit they did in the last 10 years or so. But Confusion is Sex? Please. Few bands have managed to create a record so far out yet at the same time totally rocking.

Bad Mood is definitely in my "top ten best songs ever in the world ever...ever" list, going to have to go listen to it now...

While attempting to write a proper comment I restarted and retyped what I wrote about 10 times.
I guess this song falls into my category of songs that are so good that any commentary (this post most definitely included) is stupidly inadequate, does the song injustice, and is usually a steaming plate of bullshit that doesn't describe how much I love the song.

The closest words to most accurately describing this song's pure glory are not mine anyway. These words are but poetry:

Thanks to this thread I went and downloaded "Confusion is Sex", which I don't think I have listened to since '98 after wearing it out since I got it in '93....

Jesus! I had completely forgotten how much I love this album and that song in particular.....really, one of my top 10 favorite songs by them.....

Unfortunately, this thread has made me listen to this album, very loudly, which isn;t condusive to getting the essay that I am writing finished...oh well!
