The father-and-son production team [George and Giles Martin] have not only disturbed a sacred cow, they've drawn and quartered it, dissected it, then regenerated it into LOVE, a seamless, experimental mix of Beatles sounds drawn from the most conservatively controlled master tapes in pop history.
The search keywords I used to see whether this had been done resulted in one post by Dr Awkward talking about Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

2This quote from that article articulates the thought that entered my head when I started reading--another Stars on 45?:
"The thought was to get as much Beatles music in a confined space without sounding like Stars on 45, those horrible medleys in the '80s. It should be artistic, not a novelty. That would be really irritating."
No vote.

3I know who will buy it. My dad. My dad loves this sort of half-assed nostalgic fuckabout crap. He likes Gregorian chant with trip hop beats underneath it. He liked Counting Crows' version of Big Yellow Taxi. He likes Matchbox 20. He likes Shania Twain.
He will buy 'Love'.
He will buy 'Love'.

5George Martin produced a Beatles cover album years ago with starts for the stage and screen. It was HORRID.

Also, he did not come off too well in the Geoff Emerick book.

Whoa!
That reads like a vanity album, on the scale of Leonard Nemoy, Jim Nabors or William Shatner.
I just wasn't ready to click on any of the "Listen" buttons.
Blargh!

8I'm intrigued in the same way I was excited about the Anthology series. I like a well-done collage, and to hear, say, the drums to "Sgt. Pepper's" behind "Get Back" is interesting to me. It will not create a whole new genre, it will not suddenly create all-new Beatle songs and it will not make any new fans. But I'm intrigued.

More evidence that analog tape is indeed a better storage medium than digital. This shit's old!!
(Like I needed to point that out here of all places).
My post gets a gong.
