ok, my throat is a little sore and my voice is raspy. i have to record vocals later today and was wondering if anyone could pass along anything that might help. the only thing that seems to give any temporary relief is to gargle with salt and water but that doesn't last very long. i heard tea is bad b/c it dries the throat. same for citrus stuff.

any advice is greatly appreciated.

the salt water thing is all I know and it works very well for me, I always use hot water and lots of salt...as hot as you can take

my favourite is "throat coat" tea. it's a brand.

there was a good article on vocal habits in an old issue of TapeOp in the past two years. I'll see if I can figure out which one.

try it with honey.

also, in the other thread, my preferred brand was "Traditional Medicinals" Throat Coat. you can get it a Jewel and it tastes pretty good, if I do remember correctly.

throat coat, honey, hot water, gargling w/ hot water, this worked for me when I had to record vocals w/ a blown out voice.

I also am a proponent of Throat Coat; I find it works best if you steep two bags in a thermos for several hours. Licorice root is good, too, and a heck of a lot cheaper than bagged tea.

Get a neti pot and fill it with warmish salt water (not iodized salt but natural sea-salt or pickling salt.

Let it drain down your throat instead of out your nose. (Spit it out, of course)

Then drink some of that throat coat or peppermint tea.

Repeat as necessary.

If that doesn't work, Rod Stewart's semen works wonders.

ok, so i'm sold on throat coat. where do i get it? drugstore item?

you can get it at Jewel or whatever large grocery store you have in the area.
I remember it being in the tea aisle.
