Looking to record my shows....What should I use???

Hi everybody,

I want to start recording my band's shows for reference, but not for any kind of production. I want to buy a low-end digital recorder similar to the ones that people use to make "notes to self" and what-not. But I want to make sure that the quality would be decent enough for me to pick out each player's parts and work off of them. I'm hoping to spend less than $100.

I just wanted to see if any of you guys had any recommendations. Your advice will be much appreciated.

Have experimented with several digital dictaphones, and they were all oriented toward speech clarity and maximum recording time for the card, with a narrowed spectrum and very low bitrate setting (I think the max you could record was was mono 32kbps. Yeurgh).

Go on eBay and get a S/H Sony ECM series tabletop stereo mic, and a S/H Pro Walkman. Chrome tapes. Place it carefully. Could be much worse.

P.S. Wrong forum.

Yeah, go cassette. You can get old 4-track cassette decks for very cheap now.

Or, join the digital portacrap recording revolution with something like this:

...for like 300 bucks. Plus media costs.

Tape sounds cooler still. I have a few records mastered off cassette, and, well, it is cassette, but the tape compression/overloading can still make it sound pretty tough. Fun for rehearsal recordings.
