i won't post this in the tech board.. cuz this is a joke and it mite sem like i'm saying something. but no..
i bought a shitty music prgam a few years ago called "reason" it costs me like 200 bucks, maybe even 300 i forget.. the guy at guitar center talked me into it..
there was absolutely nothing intuitive about it, i started it up maybe 1 or two times, and then gave up ... i'm not a tech head, so i have no dedication to learning a new form of logic just to do something i can do on an adobe audition (cool edit0.. i culd go on and on bout how useless the reason program is but...
but of course adobe auditon doesn't satisfy all my needs cuz it doesn't support VST plug-ins... so i acquire some programs from my friend who is a tch head who can get me a program for free...
another friend gives me some other prgrams to make beats, ..
+ my shitty 4 trak.. 'm set..

Reason ain't that complicated. 'Intuitive' is one of those pushbutton words that mean completely different things to different people, but seriously, this particular software doesn't require a 'new form of logic' to comprehend it. I have found lots of odd little thoughtful things on it very clearly set up by experienced MIDI studio users to make life easier.
What are you trying to do that is so hard in Reason but so easy elsewhere? What are you trying to do with it, generally? Perhaps, y'know, people might be able to help? On a tech/recording message board! Extra-bloody-ordinary.

cool edit pro (now adobe audition) is the easiest and most complete multitrack software I've taken the time to learn. Reason I downloaded for free but never got into it. It's definitely geared towards electronic music.
I really want to try BFD Deluxe since the drums were recorded at Electrical but I dunno, very pricey. I'd love to hear feedback if anyone's using it.
Ableton is kind of interesting. Non-linear editing which forces you into a new logic with putting compositions together, but I think I'd really dig it if I took the time to learn it.

There are some free and easy standalone vsti hosts, so that's never been a problem for me in cool edit.

The ableton UI is a work of art (aside from the annoying scrolling/zooming thing). Really easy to learn but very powerful when you get into it.
I bought a mac recently, can't find any audio software as good as audition for it. So far everything I've tried has fallen at the first hurdle- if space bar isn't play/stop and I can't move around the file using the arrow keys then its straight into the trash can

i fucked around with garageband on my girlfriend's mac. Not "pro" software or anything but pretty fun and intuitive I thought.

if you do the Reason tutorials, it is quite easy. Really.
I can't stand trying to write a song in Reason with actual parts and shifting time signatures or anything that's not "OOMPH OOMPH OOMPH blick OOMPH OOMPH OOMPH blick PLURP OOMPH OOMPH OOMPH" but it's no harder than using a 808 with a mixer to come up with 4/4 8/8 or 3/4 beats. Just do the math.
Using the Matrix and the Subtractor to come up with regimented synth parts that match beats is retarded easy too.
Sure, it's not the most intuitive thing, but it ain't rocket science either.
And yes, Agreed that Live is a great app. Terrible band though.
