Hey folks,

My roommate wants to buy some studio headphones for his brother for Christmas. He only wants to spend about $100. Any recommendations?

AKG k240s -- they should be like $99. These headphones are lightweight, comfortable, and have a pretty nice frequency response. When I first got a pair, I wore them all day, and forgot I even head them on -- I thought the sound was coming from my montiors and didn't realize it until and I went to turn them off... and found they weren't on (:D). Their range is about 20-20K, and the sound they produce is well-rounded -- you can hear all ranges with a good clarity. The only thing that might be a concern is that they are semi-open, so outside sound can still be heard. I think a great deal for the money, though.

Sennheiser HD25SP.

Modular, and spares easily available or jury-riggable. When you or some other eedjit yanks/treads on the cable hard, the spade plugs just come out, and you can plug them right back in. Cheap and comfortable, and very good sound quality. Not perfect, but the best for the money.

The silver Sony MDR-V700s. Suprisingly balanced and they come with a 1/4" adapter.
