Games consoles you bought... which turned out shite

I bought a dud Xbox 360 console from an infrequent poster on this board. I certainly don't blame him/her for the condition of this console, but the net effect is that I cannot play any Xbox 360 DVD games--they freeze up at random intervals. Microsoft would charge me $140 to take a look at it. I'm wondering whether to just cut my loss and throw it away. It cost me $430.

An Xbox 360 is cheaper than $140?! I gots to check into this.

I got mine when it was impossible to get them. A nerdy gaming guy got two of them, and sold me the one when they were impossible to find, kind of how the PS/3 is impossible to find now.

Man did that thing suck. I owned the default tekken fighting game that came with it, and one baseball game. that was all. None of the other games were even worth owning.

You're absolutely 100% wrong. Trust Me.
The saturn is home to some fucking incredible games.
It certainly lost in the cred stakes because the PS1 moved video games into 3D much more successfully, and Sega's originally 2-D only console was forced to include 2 processors to try and cope with 3D at the last minute before release and it still didn't do it very well). In the PS1's marketing wake, lots of saturn games never got the coverage they deserved, this however, does not mean that the saturn doesn't have good games.

Guardian Heroes, Burning Rangers, Soukyogurentai, Sega Rally (i mean come on, Sega Fucking Rally!), Nights, Thunderforce V, Baku Baku Animal, Panzer Dragoon, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Virtual On, Virtua Cop 2, Shining Force 3, All the SNK, King Of Fighters, Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown conversions, Loads of great saturn-only 2D shooter arcade conversions, including what's commonly regarded to be the best shoot-em-up of all time; Radiant Silvergun.

For the record, i don't think there is such a thing as a bad console, there are bad games. Sure some consoles can be technologically less advanced, ar graphically stronger or weaker, or faster, but it really comes down to the games.
No one says "cassettes were crap because I only owned 3 cassette tapes, which were all Roxette albums, and that's all John Menzies really had, so cassettes get CRAP".

hah!

i remember the Lynx...

my dad was a teacher whose classes were frequented by the "weird" and "cool" kids at his school -- a lot of dignified nerds, artists and all-around misfits. sometimes he'd bring home stuff that a student of his didn't want anymore and was looking to sell. one weekend he brought home a Lynx and three or four games along with it (i was really into video games at the time). could've gotten it all for a reasonable price but after playing that fucking thing over the course of a couple days, eventhough i was a dumb ass kid, i somehow knew better and decided against it. granted, this was after the hype ---- "LIKE GAMEBOY BUT IN COLOR!" ---- had died down a bit, so i was able to see the Lynx for what it was: a gimmick doomed for extinction. plus, i already had Prince of Persia on my computer, so when i played the Lynx version of it i could size the console up fairly well.

you mention the lack of games being a drawback, but really i think what made the Lynx bad was the simple fact that it was clunky system with a relatively small screen. though its screen was certainly nothing to write home about, the Gameboy was fairly compact in comparison. also, if you had a Gameboy you could trade games with other people, because other people also owned Gameboys.

i wanna play Gargoyle's Quest again, before i die.
