I want to try the new 911, 'cause the old Emtec 911 was the bomb. Haven't bought any though. Don't know if it's officially available in 2" yet...

Bought a case of the 1/2" 900, which I will use tomorrow. I look forward to burning through the rest of my 2" GP9 so's I can try out the RMG 2" 900.

I'm using 1/2 SM900 this weekend on the Otari 5050 8-track. It sounds great, very quiet.

It smells weird, though.

i know EA had some problems with the beta testing stuff they got too, similar to mine.

I have some of the 1/4" 900. when trying to set bias and hi freq eq i noticed that the high the level started dropping, and it kept getting worse as the tape kept moving. I cleaned the heads and tried again and it was fine, until about 30 seconds it started happening again.

So I suspected it was leaving something on my heads because cause of the drop in high frequency. So I shuttled the tape from head to tail while holding my finger against the insde of the tape. Sure enough there was brown residue and a shiny substance left on my finger.

I tried another reel of it that I had, and it wasn't as bad but still unstable and still shedding.

Anyhow, I threw up some AMPEX 499 I had laying around and worked like a charm.

So as far as im concerned, it's crap. I may have had a bad batch I guess.

Had a fine experience w/ the 1/2" 900 on my Studer A80RC. Thinking about trying some 911 next, though. No shedding problems.

What's the batch number on your reels, Mike?

Did anyone still have problems with the new 900 tapes?
I tried to order some quantegy today and it seems that it's not available anymore in Germany.
So the RMG stuff better be good.
