Do they really work?
I mean do you get "an extra octave at the bottom end. Even a deaf donkey could hear the difference!" ?

Reduces listening fatigue?

Adds depth to the sound stage?

I can't really speak for the product since I've never used them, but it sure seems like they are trying to over-hype the shit out of them.

Thanks for replying.
Yeah it did seem to be heaving with BS, but the idea of raising your monitors from your desk... is it one that should be implemented?
My moniters are sitting on an inch thick wooden desk and sound good, but if that could be improved by some foam or something... what's the best thing to use?

When the monitors are seated on a desk, it boosts the low freqs. When you put them on something like the china cones, it "isolates" them from the desk, and then they monitors are more of natural, or more correct - more of themselves. Still it's not completely isolating them, but it's better than nothing.

It also depends how big is your desk(H*W).

There's a review of these in the new Tape Op.

Fair enough, and I can see how that would be so, but it seems most "I call bullshit on that!" reaction has been to this:

Andy Jackson (Engineer, Pink Floyd) wrote:The power supply of my Trident 65 console is standing on China Cones - now there's an extra octave at the bottom end. Even a deaf donkey could hear the difference!

I mean, really. The power supply? Come on.

I agree that this is a pure bullshit. It wouldn't change a bit with power supplies.

But it kinda works when isolating speakers, thought I'd suggest using speaker stands to really solve this kind of problems.

I remember some article that argued isolating speakers enhanced low frequencies.... something to the effect of non-isolated speakers' vibrations being used to resonate the desk rather than project into the room. Once the speaker was isolated instead of the cabinet/desk shaking the speaker was then forced to compress/rarefact properly? I dunno it's fuzzy...

Wouldn't most speakers be tested on a desk or something of a similar nature to gauge their response anyway if the manufacturer thought that is how they where going to be used in application?

If you assume that to be correct wouldn't isolating them in some kind of fashion make them respond differently than the manufacturer intended?

meh... if your monitors sound good and translate well don't fuck with em.
spend the money on something better.

my 2 cents.

Thats absolute mickey mouse bullshit. These things are shiny black ceramic boobs (with perky nipples BTW) that come with their own carrying case and cost ~50 bucks.
I like shiny boobs. I'd rather have the monitors up on a pair of adjustable stands or better yet mounted in soffets. If I put them on the top of the console, I'd make my own feet out of wood and rubber if I really needed to.
I wouldnt put monitors right on top of a table. All kinds of reflections going on there that you dont want. But I don't think these things are the answer to that problem.
