It used to be Pink Flag, but then I discovered that the later two were more interesting.

It then was 154, but there are some trying songs on that.. usually the more Klingon-esque Lewis ballads.

So I'm settling for Chairs Missing. Not a single bad track here.
"Mercy" and "Too Late" justify the band alone.
"Pro Tools is too California Hollywood bullshit.”

Nothing wrong with that! 154 is a fascinating record. There are some amazing songs there, but I do have a bit of a problem with Graham's sudden prominence. Colin would have sung "A Touching Display" better than Graham does. Still a great song, especially - duh - that bass solo of pure evil. The songs I have trouble with on 154 are pretty predictable, I guess: "The Other Window" and "Indirect Enquiries." Arty/gothy is all well and good, but those songs kinda dry-hump my bullshit detector just a little too close for comfort. even with that, any record that has "Map Ref.," "Two People In A Room," "On Returning," and "I Should Have Known Better" on it is an automatic A or A minus.
Life...life...I know it's got its ups and downs.

chairs missing.

the peel session versions of the songs from 154 are far better than the album versions.

chairs missing is the obvious apex. any argument is stupid, so don't try. you'll be wrong. dead fucking wrong. ask yourself, "what is it about 154 or pink flag that make it better than this one?" nothing. no candle held.

pink flag- dumb punk rock. pretty damn good, though. the tones on this album are amazing. right up there with ac/dc guitar tones.

chair missing- fucking genius. perfect. one of very few perfect records on this planet.

154- a try hard. i.e.-tried too hard to not repeat themselves and over-reached. couldn't make it at this point.

"read and burn" and "send" are also dynamite. as is the "snakedrill" ep. check 'em out if you haven't already.
