I had one. it was a 85 reissue of something or other. It had two pickups. I replaced the rear one with a mid-60s P-90 that I found. Sounded awesome. played awesome. felt good. stayed in tune just fine. great guitar. I think I changed the bridge to something adjustable. for intonation, you know.
i would have liked one of the double cutaway ones.
I had one of these a while back. Should've kept it. The P90s can be a bit noisy, but they sound plenty nice. I've seen Guy Picciotto using one of these when not sporting the Ric. NC
I have an epiphone one I like very much. It's a double cutaway though. I can't deal with single cutaways. I find the asymmetry disturbing. I changed the bridge though. The stock bridge was quite poor I found.
How much are they asking for the one you're looking at?
The one in the pic is a 3/4 model (the neck joins the body at the 14th fret), still probably over 4K. Full scale Jrs. are fetching $8,000.00 to $15,000.00, TV Models (the light yellow finish) are in the mid/high 20's.
The reissues are decent and a great value, but screw the Billy Joe Jr for twice the price.
i had one from the 50's that i bought cheap about 15 years ago. everyone always said what a cool guitar it was. i never got it. it sounded and played fine but seemed pretty flimsy. $8000 for one is insane. i should have kept it and unloaded it now. i sold it 8 years ago because i never played it. it wasn't crap per say so i vote not crap but it certainly wasn't anything special.
