Man, I am LOVING the Shure KSM141 for acoustic guitar. It really represents the sound of the guitar. Not hyped in the upper frequencies, like so many currently-made small diapraghm condensers. I'm also partial to the Audio Technica 4050 because it represents the full low end of good-sounding acoustic guitars nicely and with careful placement, doesn't get too boomy. I went through a small diapraghm mic phase for a while, but I was just hearing pick noise in my mixes. The older Neumann KM84s work well if you have a really nice-sounding or really terrible-sounding guitar and want a bit of brightness without getting too harsh, but they have a fairly low output and can get noisy with quiet players. Lately I've really been enjoying a pair of 4050s as ambient mics for solo guitar or guitar and voice, in an MS configuration.

I assume that you're planning to record a singing guitar player. If you place a mic in front of the singer's mouth and mics in front of the guitar make sure that they corelate properly.
I like omnis on strummed acoustic guitars. They don't have a proximity boost and you can get real close to the guitar without getting a boomy sound. I have a pair of C 451 E with CK 2 capsules for it.
I recently had great results with a single Gefell UM 92 3-4 feet in front of the singer and guitar. A close Beyer M 160 aiming at the guitars bridge was blended in.
I'm really curious how Nina Nastasia's voice and guitar were recorded.
Hey Chris, congratulations: you've made it to a real nerd.

Thanks Max, but I knew that already. I've also been dying to get info on that Nina Nastasia album, but no one from Electrical has posted any info on any of her work. I have read of Steve professing his appreciation for "Dogs," which I have also been trying to find, but have yet to hear anything about either of her other records. Steve recorded her new one in France and it's very interesting. Intersting string arrangements.
