Tell me about Orange amps

I'm nowhere near the amount of money needed to buy one of these, but I plan on saving up to eventually buy one. The problem is that it's so hard to find an Orange dealer near me (the closest one is up in Mass.) so I'd like to hear from people who have used them how they measure up to other amps. I plan on playing one before I buy one but I'm hoping this thread will help me determine which Orange amp to buy, or if I should just look into a different company.

I'm looking for something with a fuzz box like distortion (something that's very "buzzy", like a Maestro Fuzz), but something with a good clean channel. Admittedly distortion is more important to me than clean channel, so I'm looking at a something like a Rockerverb 50 or 100.

So are they worth the somewhat steep price they're saddled with?

My experience is with an Orange AD15. I'll tell you they sound good. I wouldn't describe the overdrive sound as being buzzy, more like a nice midrangey, slightly darker sound. The cleaner sounds were nice and of similar character. I'd say "buzzy" probably describes something more like my DRRI when it's turned up real loud, BUT I don't care for the way my amp takes fuzz pedals. The Orange sounded great with them. Then again, it depends on what you expect.

Personally, I'd stay away from high powered tube amps, especially if I were more concerned about overdrive sounds. All that extra power/headroom makes it incredibly loud by the time you get the tubes doing their thing. Besides, the lower wattage amp will be less expensive.

I tried the Orange lunchbox 7 / 15 watt head last week and I was very impressed. The 15 watt setting was quite loud. 600 dollars I think it was ?

The conversations in that thread didn't really answer any of my questions.

I had to use an orange amp once when my band played interstate. I didn't like it. It seemed to have next to no high end. Some people obviously like this sound though.

I love the idea of these things. Did you check out the 7-watt mode? Isn't even that still on the somewhat louder side, as far as "home recording" is concerned?
