I can name several not stupid metal bands, but on the whole I think it is a genre for the slow and the infirm.

Be careful as your answer could mark you for life, and possibly harm your future career in politics.

Basically stupid...there's definitely some metal bands (or bands on the verge of "metal") that I really do like, but as a genre...I have to give it a CRAP. It just seems like a musical dead end.

I could be wrong though...time and experience will tell.

There's a few shining stars out there but by and large it's a ridiculous genre of music.

People that only listen to Metal are very weird. It's like they stayed in a regressive state and it's difficult to have conversations with them on other subjects. There's something despicably male-centric and imbecilic about lots of Metal bands and that's pretty much exactly what doesn't interest me in music. Each to their own though! I like music I can dance to with my Lady but some folks like head-banging with 2000 hairy men in a field in Germany. So it's all good.

I agree. Sometimes they're fun, but guys who listen to metal exclusively are really weird. Its hard to talk to them about other music. Its seems like metal is the only genre they understand.

However, I'd say about 30-40% of metal is stupid... the rest is pretty good.

I agree with Tommy also. Except I would say 85% of metal is stupid. Really, really fucking stupid. Male-centricness and "brutal" attitudes and lyrics as well as shitty, boring music.

Again, waffles for the good bands, especially the late '70's english ones.

i don't dig metal, but i can see why people would.

what i can't see is the obsession for it. that's just weird.
