yes.
australia is so far away from everything and the distance between major cities is huge compared to pretty much everywhere else in the western world. very expensive to get around for a band.

Maybe I'm wrong, but Shellac have played at least New Zealand before, and I don't think they've played Texas yet.
So, you can still live in the U.S. and have never had a chance to catch them in your city.

EDIT: Yeah, they definitely did a tour of Texas last year with the New Year.

they have been to Aus before (im guessing it was 96?) i was in a bad way at the time and missed them.
