I decide to post this in "General Discussion" as it strikes me as a decidedly un-techy endeavor. I am looking to purchase a portable digital recorder - something I can plug a half way decent mic into to record my band's practices (and the occasional show) and then easily download the recording onto my PC in, say, .wav format. Is there anything like this out there or do I have to resign myself to DAT? The key for me is ease of use and convenience. I am not going to be making any archival recordings - I just want to be able to digitize our practices so I can send the guys new stuff via e-mail to work on at home.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

2I asked a similar question of the board a while back. Here is the thread:

Looking for Digital Recorder Recommendations
3hey there!
i tend to lurk, and i remeber the original post. i have looked into the nomad unit to almost the point of exhaustion - but i have one buring question i can't seem to get answered.
while you are recording direct in with the 1/8" input, can you listen through headphones to essentially monitor? or does the "monitoring" need to be done through a setup on your mixing board?
thanks so much for any input!!
