Chicago has to be one of the worst. There are at least two to three parking violations in most areas. So once you find a space you have to follow a few different rules. Such as:
Sign #1. No Parking everyday from 4pm-6pm
Sign #2. No parking every first and last friday of the month.
Sign #3. No parking when snowfall is above 2 inches.
Meanwhile there are completely different rules and signs for the opposite side of the same street. The best part is that the city hands out tickets so liberally. I have witnessed meter maids hand out tickets to cars WITH TIME LEFT in their meters. My friend asked the lady why she ticketing cars with time left. Her response was that when cars have only a minute or two left, they probably wouldn't be back in time anyway. So she just slaps on tickets to cars even if they have a few minutes.
I haven't even got into the areas in the city that are not clearly marked. However, because there is one sign 3 to 4 blocks away you will still get a ticket for a violation that isn't even remotely clearly posted.
I've had my car towed out of a legal spot in the loop. Try fighting it, once you get towed or ticketed in this town(even if your in the right) your fucked and your stuck with it.
I hear San Fran is really bad too, but I have never been. Any other cities this bad?

2I have never even seen a cop in my neighborhood
there are signs but I never read them and I have not gotten a ticket yet
Oh wait, when it snowed I had to move my car
aside from that I park 5 steps away from my front door every day no tickets no hassle no bullshit
Plus Kumas is steps away
I love this part of town
everywhere else I've lived in this city, oh yeah cars towed booted ticketed all that

3They are terrible in Edinburgh, but it is a small city with limited parking.
Almost anywhere near the city centre (other than the few multi-storey car parks) have a 2 hour maximum stay, with restrictions in place from 8.30am to 6.30pm.
I just use the bus.

4I locked my keys in my van for the first time ever at my girlfriend's house a couple weeks ago. Instead of calling a locksmith, I figured I'd wait until the next day when I could get a spare key from one of my bandmates.
Upon arriving to the house with the spare, I realized my van had been towed.
Apparently, there was a one-day parking restriction because they were sweeping the streets. I did not recall any posted signs, nor did my girlfriend, including the next morning when she saw signs a few blocks down.
It cost $138 to get my van out of the impound lot, and the ticket was an additional $34.
Next time, I'm just paying a locksmith. Or double-checking my surroundings.

5when I was living in middletown ct, there was a blizzard one winter. I couldn't get my car up the icy driveway that was supposed to be plowed, so I parked it on the street. next morning it was gone.
snow emergency. now the thing is the town (which is the biggest piece of shit town there ever was. seriously don't ever go there if you can help it.) had no posted signs or nothing. didn't knock on doors to let people know. didn't tow the car around the corner. they were pricks about it. towed it across fucking town. had to wait hours to get it back. cost me something like $300 in the end.

no parking on wed odd side 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. may-november
no parking on thurs even side 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. may-november
something like that.
tickets run from $20-$40 depending on violation.

8I had pretty good luck contesting a ticket by mail in Chicago, actually. I encourage everybody to do so, if the mood strikes you.
Next time you're impounded, PM me and I'll crack you open a beer. I live right by the impound lot. It'll take the sting away a little bit, for when they tell you the total.

9BadComrade wrote:Oh, and they also started "running" the meters on Sunday. I'm still not sure if the entire city does this or not. Now, most people assume that the meters don't "run" on Sunday, which is how it once was. Those people get a $35 tiket on their car. Other people walk over to the meter, and see a sticker under the coin slot that says "Monday - Saturday, 10am-9pm", and they think they don't have to feed the meter. Well, there's a sticker on the STREET side of the meter that they added a couple of years ago that says "Sunday 10am-8pm" that no one ever sees, so they get ticketed too. Whenever I see someone miss the meter or think they don't have to feed it on a Sunday, I run out and tell them to.
Those godless fucks! At least you're good enough to tell people.

10Hi- so I decided to finally stop lurking and add one more female poster to this premier rock forum.
I was shocked to find out that tickets here in Chapel Hill only cost $15. I no longer care or pay attention to where I park in a hurry. This is such an improvement from Minneapolis.
