Local Record Shop - How much Slack?

So the local (20 minutes away in princeton) record shop is pretty good, lots of used good conditon vinyl, CDs, etc. They just don't really stock all the new new indie stuff I need. I go in there every 3 months with a list of 18 things, and I find like 2 of them.

Today was the last straw. I search the store for the new shellac LP. I will buy 2 copies. No dice. I ask at the front counter, no they do not have the LP only the CD. Are you getting more in? Did you stock it but ran out, or do I need to special order it? Guy looks at the computer: I don't know. I don't think we ever had it on LP.

I tried, I really did. I waited, made a special trip during lunch, paid to park.... Should I just say fuckit and order it online somewhere? Where? I really want to support the local place, but it's not like I have time to keep going back there until they get what I want.

Did you ask the guy at the store to order the LP and hold it for you? Most decent stores will do that if you ask. Hell, the place where I got my Excellent Italian Greyhound LP did just that for me with the new Mary Weiss album, which conveniently arrived just in time for me to pick it up the same day as EIG. I say support your local record store, because they'll go away soon (just like Tower and most of the other major chains) if we don't!

holy crap! where do you buy your records? no record i've ever ordered online or by mail-order has ever been messed up in shipping.

you should support your local record shop without it being an inconvenience.
