I just got a blackface '67 bassman and I don't have a cabinet yet. I know its 4 ohms which makes it kinda tough to get the right cabinet. What do you all use? I'm looking at Avatar speakers for a 2X12 cabinet, but at $400 its a bit much.
Thanks!

did this to test out my bassman, worked fine.
My friend has been running his bandmaster head into a 16 Ohm cabinet for years and it has never been loud enough, despite both guitars using similar wattage amps. I think you can get away with it if you need to, and 99% of people won't be able to tell the difference. However, it could do damage to your head over an extended period of time.

I have a '72 Bassman 100 (4 ohms) that I ran for a couple of years through a 16 ohm cabinet and had no problems. Eventually I had that same 16 ohm cabinet rewired to 4 ohms to ease my mind about any harm that I could be doing to the head with the mismatched impedance. However my amp tech at the time, whose parents actually built the old Fender amps back in the day, assured me I wasn't doing any harm to the amp as long as I was putting less (4 ohm amp) into more (16 ohm cab). And whatever gain in volume I got from rewiring the cabinet wasn't drastic enough to make a major difference if I remember correctly.
Also, if you're looking for an old Fender cabinet to go with that head I met a guy in San Diego recently who says he has a bunch of silverface amps/cabs as well as others that he's looking to get rid of. Feel free to PM me and I'll find his phone number.
