Cheap (?) multi-purpose Mic

1
Hey all

I'm about to buy a new computer for making music. I'll primarily be making electronic music (on Cubase, but let's not have that discussion  ), and for that I'll be recording some vocals and samples of everyday stuff (how original).

A former bandmate of mine has a similar set-up, and uses a Rode NT2A for similar purposes. He seems to think it was a pretty good mic for the money, and so I am thinking of getting one - does anyone else have any experience of this mic? What are the alternatives (that are the same price or cheaper - I don't want to spend too much cash; £200/$400 is my limit).

Cheeeeeeeeers

'Cheap' you say? 'Multi purpose' you say?

I give you the Audio Technica 4033! It's great! And how about that moody matt black finish!

(Technically not cheap but certainly within your budget).

The only Rode mic I've ever used was the K2 valve one which was nice and very, very quiet. That NT2A one looks like it has some clever features (the variable polar pattern and pad) but I'd go for the AT one.

I had two and, I would highly recommend getting one. It didn't have the sibilance problems that my tube mic had, and the polar pattern select switch is a great thing. Build quality is exceptional and the mic looks and feels expensive. Really, you could have this plus either a decent ribbon or dynamic mic, and that would cover your home recording needs, right there.
