For ages, I found this band to be entirely loathsome, but they've unfortunately made a few albums that I file under "guilty pleasure". Those are Vanishing Point, Echo Dek, XTRMNTR, and, to a lesser degree, Evil Heat. I think maybe working with Kevin Shields has made a lot of their stuff more tolerable, but I might be wrong. In any case, hearing that he and Bernard Sumner played on XTRMNTR, then finding said album used convinced me to give it a chance, and it acquits itself nicely (except for the song with Bobby Gillespie trying to rap, which is just laughable).

That having been said, I have no difficulty giving these clowns a CRAP vote for everything else they've ever done. They built their entire career of co-opting and dumbing down (next to impossible in some cases) certain trends in pop music, yet are inexplicably hailed in some circles as a brilliant, innovative band. Despite my grudgingly enjoying a few things they've done, they are utter CRAP.

NOT CRAP. Eerily enough, when I saw them in June of 2000, Gillespie was telling the crowd to bomb the Pentagon. Guess what happened a year and three months later?

I don't think their music's that bad, but I absolutely hate Bobby Gillespie's vocals. He always pisses me off, and I gotta vote CRAP.

He should've stuck to drumming for the Jesus and Mary Chain.

J&MC and The Wake are both easily NOT CRAP.

Some very good moments scattered here and there, but definately crap. For the life of me, I don't understand why those Buddyhead guys have such a big ol' gay boner for this middling (at best) band.

Maybe because Les Borsai told them to.

I have probably heard 'Loaded' maybe 2,800 times in my lifetime and it is still a fucking great record.

not crap, for aforementioned records. especially 'XTRMNTR'.

i've met them once or twice. good lads. also, worth bearing in mind that they have members of the stone roses (i can't decide if they were CRAP'...probably), jesus and mary chain (NOT CRAP!) and my bloddy valentine (NOT CRAP!).
